Wedding Dress Fitness: Gaining Weight But Losing Inches

Trying to get fit for your wedding?  You are in the right place.  I’m Jen, a nutrition and fitness coach.  I run challenge groups to help small groups gain support and education on their way to being wedding dress ready.  And about my title, yes, you read that correctly… when you finally reach your goal you may actually be thrilled to see that you GAIN weight in muscle, but will LOSE inches of fat.

I know, sounds impossible doesn’t it?  Well… it is a real thing that happens when you get your nutrition right, then start lifting heavy weights consistently.  Its a pretty simple formula and many of the beachbody programs follow this design:

  • Lift heavy 3 days a week
  • 2 days of cardio / plyo
  • yoga or stretching 1-2 days a week
  • help nail your nutrition with Shakeology

The time you put in matters, of course 60min of working out will take you further than 30 minutes.  BUT, the nice part is if you are working as hard as you can, lifting as heavy as you possibly can, even 30 minutes a day will make a big difference if you are not already in shape.  Read more below for how I can help…


A friend of mine recently allowed me to coach her through her wedding planning “getting fit” phase.  She started about a year out and had great success.  She allowed me to share her recent post from my private facebook group with you all.  Here is what she had to say:

Wow. So I know in THEORY that muscle weighs more than fat but check out this:

One year ago in January 2012 I weighed 133 and bought my wedding dress. The dress came in around August 2012 and I still weighed about 135 and it fit perfectly.

I started working out in about May of last year.

In January of 2013 I went back for my first fitting and was worried because I weighed 145. The dress still fit perfectly. How is that possible? How could I be precisely the same size but 10+ pounds heavier?

My wedding was last week. I weigh 150 – which I only know because I had a doctors’ appt this morning. I’ve tossed out my scale and just concentrate on eating well and working out. I’ve done Chalean X and am almost done with Couch to 5k – I’m on week 6.

All of my clothes fit just the same if not a bit looser and I’m 15+pounds heavier.

So it IS true. 🙂
